YWCA Namibia is a small non-profit organization in Katutura, Windhoek, established 30 years ago, which advances the empowerment, leadership and rights of women, young women and girls. We are a volunteer-based movement with over 3.000 members that is active all over Namibia. We are reaching women and girls at the grassroots level. We are working for 14 regions. Working with children, youth and women, and our goal is to create positive changes in the community. Our main focus is on problems relating to violence against women and children, early childhood development and HIV/AIDS. Existed programs are Home-based Care training, children clubs, peer counselling, Kindergarten and all kinds of activities to end violence against women (for example). In development is our information program for mothers of children with disabilities.
YWCA Namibia is member of the World YWCA. The World Young Women’s Christian Association (World YWCA) is faith-based organisation which advances the empowerment, leadership and rights of women, young women and girls in more than 120 countries around the world. We are a volunteer-based movement, which has been at the forefront of progressing women’s rights for more than 160 years. We are rich in diversity, and our members and supporters include women from many different faiths, ages, backgrounds, beliefs and cultures. Yet we are all working toward the same common goal that “by 2035, 100 million young women and girls will transform power structures to create justice, gender equality and a world without violence and war; leading a sustainable YWCA movement, inclusive of all women.”
